Lenovo Thinkcenter with XP Pro SP3 will NOT accept ethernet driver (Broadcom 440

Hello,
My Thinkcenter 8171-VP7 will not install recommended ethernet driver. I douched out harddrive a year ago and it accepted drivers. This year, same thing but I get a code 28 and explanation that wizard will not put software into hardware. I have cable broadband that is always on.

Hello?? Anyone?? NOW, I HAVE AGAIN RE-FORMATTED AND THIS TIME WENT WITH XP-HOME -SP3. I still would expect to use the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit ethernet adapter driver. If I could afford Windows 7 I may as well use it because there would be a better chance of having drivers in that OS. Whatever.
