ok i went from 800 dollar pc (just homework and music) to a 2k dollar pc (wicked gaming best of best)
and have settled at about 1200-1500 depending on a few accessories.

overclocking probably not at all games... wow/lotro/FF X1V other than that college homework.

case--- (1st) antec 1200 (2nd) antec 902

motherboard--- (1st) ud5 (2nd) ud3r

processor--- (1st)i7 930 (2nd) i7 920

graphics card--- evga 260 superclocked

ram--- gskill 3x2g 1600 ripjaws

hard drive--- 2 samsung f3 1tb 7200 or 2 seagate barracuda 1tb 7200 (raid 0 or 1 havent decided)

cpu hsf--- (1) noctua nh-d14 (2) prolimatech megahalmes rev b (3) cooler master v8

power supply--- still have the antec tpq 850 from my big build haven't changed it my only thing is i really want it to be fully modular i hate extra wires.

what do ya think? for the hsf is there any way to make the nhd14 not so feakin ugly? does it work ok with out the fans to make it look more like the megahalmes? and if so no fans on either megahalmes or nh-d14.

  1. Couple of recommendations...
CPU: Drop down to the i5 750, which is still a very capable gaming and "homework|music" CPU. It'll save you $80 over the i7 930 will little performance decrease.
MOBO: ASUS P7P55D-E Pro, which willl save you an additional $30 plus off your build.
    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600 Cas7, which will saves you an additional $60
HSF: Go with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus, which will save an additional $40 roughly.
GPU: ATI 5850, take the savings of the CPU, MOBO, RAM and HSF and go with a much better GPU!!
HDD: Can't go wrong with either of those two in RAID setup :D
Case: I would go with the Cooler Master HAF 922 over the Antec 902 but you can't go wrong with the Antec 1200.
  2. ^ Great build Techmo34!
  3. ^ Same build im considering but possibly with 5870

still debating motherboards though, the E-pro has alot of reports about whining sounds. A poor fello here on the forums has RMA'ed two already trying to get one working.

A real shame because other then that, it seems like an AWESOME MB.
