SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming first and foremost, and of course standard browsing, music, video, etc.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I only plan on upgrading the processor, motherboard, and RAM. Current power supply is a 700W Raidmax. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152037

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg.com I was planning on using microcenter.com for the i7 930, just for the sheer price difference.

PARTS PREFERENCES: I'm open to suggestions. I've generally used ASUS boards, and currently use G.Skill RAM, but I am open to suggestions. I am especially inept at picking motherboards.

OVERCLOCKING: I will plan on overclocking a bit. Nothing too hardcore. (I have my current E8500 at 4ghz, and I would probably be more hesitant with a more expensive chip)

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1440x900

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Honestly, this is still a debated upgrade. I'm not sure there would be much of a performance increase by jumping to an i7 930 from an e8500. I'm also curious about the potential bottleneck caused by my GTX 260 graphics card. (In other words, you guys can feel free to talk me out of spending this money, haha) My main reason for upgrading would be so I could upgrade more easily later, and possibly achieve a small amount of "futureproofing" on the processor front.

But, basically, the parts I've been eyeing are:

Intel i7 930 processor
EVGA motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188049&cm_re=EVGA_1366-_-13-188-049-_-Product
And as for RAM, I was just planning on getting anything that would get me by. Most likely 4gb of 1600? I'm not really sure the best route to go here considering my budget.

I thank you guys for the input!

Actually, now that I've done a little more searching, this motherboard stuck out as well:

Gigabyte mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423&cm_re=gigabyte_1366-_-13-128-423-_-Product

The price is close. And USB 3.0 can't hurt I suppose. They also have a pretty good combo going with some G.Skill RAM.

Like I mentioned, I'm pretty bad at picking motherboards, and they are a pretty important component when you think about future upgrades and whatnot. Any input would be appreciated.

I think you'll only really see a big performance difference between the 2 cpus on threaded apps. i5 750 will perfom almost as good but factoring in cheaper mobo and RAM, it'll be a nice saving

imo nice mobo + ram combo
