  1. what about 5850 thats more powerful and cheaper

    5850 - more powerful than a 470

the GTX285 is old get the 5850 its good

the Gtx 285 is 320+$ (lowest model)
    GTx470 is 350+$(lowestmodel

but the 5850 is 310$(lowest model)
but can give more performance than a GTx470

Both the cards you have listed are designed mainly for gaming, not professional apps. Although, they would give you some additional processing muscle, you are better off with a professional workstation card like Nvidia's Quadro FX series. They are designed solely for technical applications, like the one you listed.

If at all you want either of the two cards which you have listed, then go for the gtx 470.

I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that the 5850 performs better than the 470, it is just not true. However, the perfomance difference is minimal, and actual gameplay enhancements are close to nil.

  4. AS ksampanna stated. If you are using this card solely for 3D modeling you do not want a gaming card. You want a professional workstation card. They are expensive but if you are doing professional 3D modeling you are going to want something with the driver support these come with. From what I am told an Nvidia FX 1800 is a good place to start. They are moderately priced and give great performance in 3D apps.
