Hi there,

Having problems with sound. Here is my setup.

i7-930
ASUS P6X58D-E X58 ATX LGA1366
Coolermaster
Haf 922
Noctua NH-U12P
G.SKILL F3-12800CL6T-6GBPI Pi Series 6GB 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL6-8-6-20
2x Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB SATA2 7200RPM 32MB
5970

It hasn't always been here, it's just been recently. For example, while I am playing SC2 if I have youtube running in the background (or any sound, for that matter) my game goes sluggish. The second I close the source its fixed.

To a more severe degree, I always watch a stream (day9tv.blip.tv), and in the last couple days it starting completely locking up my computer the split second it is finished buffering. I've tried uninstalling/installing programs, using different browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera) and such... I just want to watch the video =[

Any ideas?

Sounds like the sound card/chip is overheating

Check airflow, or buy another fan, or a new sound card

Typically sound devices don't require fans... but if there is a hardware problem I guess that would be what is causing the additional heat. If all the airflow is fine, then it won't be long till the device breaks all together.

It could also be your video card? Have you tried running some videos, or a video benchmark like furmark and see if that causes anything? (disable sound during tests)

I am using onboard sound...

Video card is stable, also this freeze happens on loading of a stream too, that shouldn't have anything to do with a video card anyway, unless I am mistaken.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but since no one else is replying...

First of all, right click on your harddrive and properties > tools > error checking. Check both boxes and let that work for awhile until it's finished.

Download CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner and run the top 2 tabs, registery and temp stuff

Download HWmonitor http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.16-setup.exe This will tell you the temps from sensors in your PC
Download memtest for windows: http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html
Download prime95 http://mersenneforum.org/gimps/p64v2511.zip
These programs are stress tests.. Memtest tests your ram, and prime 95 tests the CPU and some ram. You can test up to 2000mb of ram at a time in each memtest window. Use HWmonitor to monitor the temps during the tests

After a few hours, check the memtest and prime95 windows for any errors,, there should be 0.

Not sure if your problem lies within those tests (including the harddrive scan) but if it does, or if there are any other problems, then it'll probably surface during the tests.

Have you checked soundcard drivers? Uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
