I've OC'd my CPU(Phenom II X4 955) to 3.8 ghz w/4gb of RAM to try to increase render times, but it still takes me 17 minutes to render a 45 second 720p uncompressed AVI video in Sony Vegas. My friend, with the same project settings and render settings, only takes 4 minutes to render a 720p uncompressed avi 15 second vid. He has an AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz and 7 gb of RAM.

So, my question is would increasing up to 8 gb of RAM from 4 decrease render times? Or is something just messed up in my PC thats causing it such slow speeds? Because I tend to get some "low memory" errors sometimes too while i'm rendering, ending my whole render. Fortunately, RAM has gone down in price a lot, being only aorund $50 for 4gb, which I can afford.

you need more ram ... when doing rendering it utilizes alot of ram so the max u can put on your board do it... and you should get faster renders.... i have 24gb on my i7 setup cause i use after effects cs5 and it can utilize the ram

Yes, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have my Hyper 212+ so the fan is getting blown vertically, will that interfere with trying to put 2 x 2 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws RAM in the 1st 2 slots? Because the 2 x2 gb of ripjaws I have now are in the 3rd and 4th slot.

not sure check and see if you can put a stick of your existing in each and if you can go for it if not re position it if possible. And what jprahman said is correct and he is the man so i would listen to his advice
