Hello,

bought a phenom 2 X4 840 for this board but it doesnt work. Its not on the supported CPU list so I'm changing to another board but still wanted to put a faster CPU in this one (currently a 4800+). Does anyone have this CPU running:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7850+ Black Edition

the 7750 is on there but not this one and having been burnt once I want to make 100% sure.

in fact, what CPU's are people running that are NOT in the supported CPU list?

thanks

All you need to do is update the bios to run the CPU. From looking at the CPU support list, I see the Phenom II x4 820 is on there. Architecturally, the CPUs are 100% same. The only difference is the multiplier. Since the microcode support is in the bios for the 820, I'm sure the 840 will work. It's the same thing for the 7750/7850. The newest bios is from 2010-02-23 and will essentially support all AM3/AM2+/AM2 (Phenom II, Athlon II, Sempron, Phenom, etc...) processors except the hexacores (1055t, 1090t, etc...) Direct link is here: http://img.lanparty.tw/Upload/BIOS/CM/R7LD223.zip Alternatively you can go to http://dfi.com.tw and navigate through the menus.

My friend was worried that a Phenom II x3 740 wouldn't work on his motherboard because only the 720 was listed on the support list. I told him that was not the case, and flashed his bios for him, installed it, and he was good to go.

I tried the latest bios, had no joy. Couldn't seem to get it stable. None of the supported CPU's are C3 stepping, AMD must of tweaked something.

In the end I bought an X3 435 and that works fine. The X4 820 works great in my new board.
