HD4870 1GB RUN GTA IV HIGH?

Hi there i have recently bought a HD4870 1GB mainly because gta iv was pissing me off(not running smoothly). I used to have a HD4850 512MB and it was playing ok at times and crap at times at 1440x900 high 30 view distance 32 detail distance. I thought it was the cpu as i had a pentium dual core e6300@3.6ghz, so i upgraded to a core 2 quad q9300. This gave me an fps boost of 10-15fps which is pretty reasonable. In gta iv i was getting an average of 30-35fps around town and some dips 25-30fps. So i overclocked my cpu to 3.1ghz and no fps increase what so ever. So i bought this new card mainly because I play at 1440x900 so i dont need a HD5850 , HD5870, GTX 280 GTX 295. I know its the vram of the card so would this hd4870 1gb be sufficient enough to play at 1440x900 high? Thanks.

Oh yeah my specs as follows:
Core 2 quad q9300 2.5ghz overclocked to 3.1ghz
4gb corsair ram @1066MHZ
Powercolour HD4870 1gb
500gb seagate barracuda 7200.12+ 300gb western disigtal
GA-G31M-ES2L(yes i know it sucks xD)

That should be fine. IIRC, GTAIV requires a significant amount of vRam compared to other games, but 1GB should be enough for your resolution, as well as your processor.

I don't understand, if you've BOUGHT the card already, then why post about it instead of just doing some simple testing yourself?

i have the 4870 1gb running on E8400 and 4gb DDR2 and to tell you the truth it gives you all that laggy performance, especially around the bridge areas or where theres a lot of shadows to be rendered.
dont get me wrong the 4870 is an awesome card, the only game that doesnt seem to work well with it is GTA, and u can get low fps with bfbc2 on 1680x1050

it should be fine, though don't expect miracles over the 4850 (well maybe for GTA IV since it uses a lot of vram)

Its going to run ok. You'll probably have to turn down shadow quality and couple of other options. I played it with the 4870x2 at 1920x1200 and had to turn certain things down. Great looking game though...

How much did you pay for it?

For $150-$160, you can get a 5770 1GB which performs equal to the 4870 but has eyefinity, dx11, uses less power, runs cooler, etc

Unless you got the 4870 1GB for cheaper prices, I suggest canceling your order and getting a 5770.

GTA4 is a poorly coded piece of crap and a RAM black hole. I use up all my VRAM, and the game uses more than 4GB (our of 6GB) of system RAM when I play it for an hour or so. This is the most RAM I've ever used in any application, ever.
