Looking for general opinions on my latest project, will keep things as short as possible seeing as most people on here know what they are doing.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: now until the ned of summer (august)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Games, Folding@home, movies, internet

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: NA

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Ncix

PARTS PREFERENCES: Here we go:

Thermaltake Level 10 Full tower
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=48082&vpn=VL30001N1Z&manufacture=Thermaltake

Asus p6x58D mobo
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=52155&vpn=P6X58D-E&manufacture=ASUS

Core i7 930
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=50913&vpn=BX80601930&manufacture=Intel

I actually have not done any research on ram, so any help in this catagory would be fantastic

ATI Sapphire Radeon HD5970
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=52224&vpn=21165%2D00%2D51R&manufacture=SAPPHIRE

For hardrives I'll get 1 solid state, probably around the ballpark of 80G paired with 2 2TB HDDs.

PSU I'm assuming at least 900W, if not 1000W to be safe.

Not sure if I want to stay air or go water cooling, leaning toward air since I don't have any experience in water cooling.

Will also be purchasing the 30" Dell moniter
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=222-7175

Razer Mamba and g19 keyboard.

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 2560x1600

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Purpose of this build is to achieve high end performance without top end prices. I did not skimp on the video card because the last time I did that when I built my last rig in 2007 I bought an 8800Gtx as opposed to the ultra at a 300$ difference and ended up being unhappy with the performance or my SLI cards. If the is a significant difference say going between the core i7 930 to a top end processor in the $900-$1000 range that justifies the price tag then by all means please let me know.

Um, $3k to 4k IS top end price for a gaming rig...

Why on earth are you using a crappy $830 case?

You should be using
CPU: i7-930
MOBO: Gigabyte UD3
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423&cm_re=gigabyte_usb_3-_-13-128-423-_-Product

Case: Something NOT $830.... like the HAF 922, or if you want pretty and overpriced, a Silverstone
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163073

PSU: A Corsair 750TX, or a Seasonic 750 gold is more than enough.

GPU: 5970 is fine.

RAM: G SKill Pi for great budget kit. Trident's if you wanna go all out.

HD: Spinpoint F3's.

SSD: Intel X25-M 80gb. Can Raid 2 in Raid 0 if you really want performance.

HSF: Cm Hyper 212 Plus for a great low priced HSF. Megahalems if you want the best.

Thanks for the reply, I guess the title is a little misleading since the moniter and the case come out to $2300, so technically the actual tower is only 2k worth of stuff. I'm sure youll also agree with me that 2k for internal componants is not top end, as the price can certainly go higher. I might be considering 2 5970, so just that on the table is $1400. Thanks for the advice on ram and the other cases, much apreciated.

I'd get something a little higher end than the 922 and I find the tj09 ugly but thats personal.

I wouldn't get a 5970 in any universe as it's trashed in every way by dual 460 exept a 5970 has a slightly better upgrade path but not much. And if it's upgrade ^path you're after I'd go with 480s.

the budget you have is pretty good. buy an sli/crossfire X mobo and fit 2 gtx 580s in it. a single gtx 580 is 7-8% powerful than a ati hd 5970. for ram, i would suggest corsair vengance (4x4) 16gb kit. you'll get it within 170$. and for the processor, get a intel core i7 980 or 990x. the case is ok. the power supply, you would want to upgrade it to a 1200 W thermaltake.
