Has anyone had a problem installing win xp pro on new pc which supports 64 bit?

Hello,
i built a pc ,has amd core 8 cpu with asus mobo,
1-tb hard drive,8 mb ram,2 dvd drives,and a video card.started loading win xp pro w/sp3,it would load files for a minute or so,then would stop with a blue screen saying the program was stopped to keep from damageing my computor w/ some x's o's error message.hope someone can tell me what i did wrong. i get a great bios screen. thanks don

my friend last time installed xp on a 64bit AMD and he didnt have any problems at all
