I have a new system with an SSD. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. Now my question is this. I know that 7 is supposed to handle Trim on the SSD when the system is idle. First of all will a screen saver be ok? Also how do I know Trim is in fact working?

Open up CMD as an administrator, and type in
fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

-The Value 0 means TRIM is functioning properly.
-The Value 1 means TRIM is not.

Open Command Prompt with Administrative privileges (Run as administrator) and enter the follow command.

  1. fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

If the result is '0' TRIM is enabled.

If your SSD is running in AHCI and is not a member of a RAID then TRIM will be enabled automatically.

It's a system level operation so it'll run whenever Windows is loaded, you don't even have to be logged in
