1600 ram compatible with i5-2500k?

I have just purchased some G.skills ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

So i was wondering if these rams are compatible with the i5-2500k, on microcenters website its states that the supported memory is only 1066 and 1333

also i purchased a total of 16gb of those ram is it overkill?

They should work fine although they claim they made these for Sandy Bridge http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428
16gb being an overkill is all going to be based on the use, and the speed is fine.

but its for a gaming rig and i cant wait till the mobos come out

honestly u dont need more than 8 gigs of ram for gaming, over 8 is overkill tbh
