Can't drag and drop to my cdrw

Last response: in Windows XP

I used to be able to drag files to my cdrw for copying or use the "send to"
command in the right-click menu. This option no longer works. Anyone have
any ideas on what configuration changed or what I need to do to reenable this
function?

More about : drag drop cdrw

If you are trying to save or drag and drop directly to CD, this is known as
packet writing and XP does not support that function natively. This
requires third party software such as the Direct CD component of Easy CD
Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.

Check the web sites for version compatibility with XP as well as compatible
CD-Writers.

Sorry, I should be clearer. When I would drag items to the cdrw drive, a
bubble would pop up stating that I had files waiting to be written to the cd,
it wasn't truly drag & drop. This is something that my computer did from day
one but somewhere along the way it stopped working. I have had multiple cdrw
drives and a dvd r/w in the same computer and they all no longer allow this
function. I do have third party programs installed and they do work
flawlessly but require a lot more clicks and time to transfer a simple file
to cd. My guess is that a third party program has hijacked this function
away from windows much like quicktime will hijack mpegs from windows media
player if you let it. I was just hoping that there is a way to go back into
windows and reenable this function, it is very handy to use.

Actually, if you install the packet writing function of the third party
software, it should be as easy to move a file to CD as dragging a file to a
floppy disk, that's how it is designed to work.

It is possible your third party software has turned off the function. Open
Windows Explorer, select the drive that does the CD writing, right click,
select properties, go to the Recording tab, place a check in the box next to
"Enable CD recording on this drive," click apply and ok. If it is already
checked, uncheck it, click apply, then check it and click apply and see if
this resolves the issue.

If not, my guess is, some third party software as you have described is
interfering and you may need to first remove that software before being able
to enable this function again on your system.
