500$ Gaming PC

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking about purchasing a new gaming computer for quite a while now, and have come up with the following.

I do NOT need anything other than a motherboard, CPU, GPU, and RAM.

Currently, I have around 500$ to spend on this computer. I am looking to buy a pair of relatively cheap graphics cards (~100 each). Also I am planing on overclocking my CPU to around 3.2 ghz and unlocking the 4th core.

I have never build a computer before so I have a lot of questions. I have done quiet a lot of research and hopefully this will work.


Will I also need to purchase a CPU fan to overclock my CPU? If so, can you recommend a fan that will fit my budget?

What GPUs would you recommend? Also, where can I get the best price?

Is their any compatibility issues or other technical problems with this build?

Is their anything about this build that you would change while keeping the price?

Would a 550 watt PSU be able to support this build?

One thing tough I don't know if that RAM will work with the motherboard.

Hmm. On Newegg it says that it has 2 PCIe Slots:

"PCI Express 2.0 x16 | 2 (x16/x4)"

and claims it is also good for unlocking cores:

Also, I am looking for some cheaper graphics cards to put them in SLI/Crossfire. Or do you think I would get more performance out of a single 5770?

Well you could take two 4850s.

2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (Single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode)

8X dosent take that much of a performance dip compared to 4X.

That PSU looks like it came from a Dell please if you can shell out an extra 70$ you could get a great power supply I think that one wont take your system.
