Just get any Creative sound-card that fits your budget.

Xfi sound card is perfectly fine. I had it for ~ 2 years now and never had issues with it whatsover.

ah! finally someone with sense. this is what i was waiting for.

bdcrlsn, i can get alot of Creative users (me being one), and ALOT of XiFi fanboys who will make you eat your words. If you have some unknown brand (:S) that doesn't mean you start poisoning others mind.

Next time keep a check on your self.

I second the motion to avoid Creative, and it has as much to do with what they've been doing to their sound cards as it does with what they've been doing to the industry.

That we gamers feel forced to buy products at least containing their licensed chips because Creative attempts to rule the market by force, says enough.

Ever since the Audigy 2 they have been reducing the feature sets in their cards, all the while trying to force people to buy new ones by refusing to update drivers for new OS and by threatening lawsuits against community members who hacked the drivers and released updates for them.

That they feel the need to force consumers to buy new products by suppressing new driver releases for old ones says quite a bit about their new products. I spent years looking for a new Creative card that would be as functional as my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and never to this day found one from Creative. My demands are reduced now because I sold the MIDI keyboard I used to play around with, but it's pretty annoying to me that they dropped all but one of their inputs and removed MIDI and stopped making a breakout box that does anything.

There's plenty of talk all over about the quality of Creative's DACs vs the quality of competitors' DACs, and I don't think I've ever seen a driver for a Creative product I didn't loathe installing on my system. Right here in my system right now I have a Creative X-Fi card that I found out after purchasing doesn't have an X-Fi chip in it. I have to replace it less than 6 months after purchasing because it doesn't even have basic features like an internal SPDIF-out to connect to my video card, and Creative removed the "What You Hear" recording source that I often need to use for some reason or another. Three weeks ago the Creative drivers just up and broke and made all sound coming from all applications sound like glitched digital noise. This is on a system I really don't tweak around with, just basic web browsing really, not even any new software installs in the months surrounding the incident, the drivers just suddenly broke. Their automatic update keeps trying to install bloatware I don't want and pops up to bother me about updates when there aren't any updates.

Other than that, my Creative card works most of the time... It just crashes constantly in ASIO programs even though it claims ASIO support, doesn't have the features the box I bought it in said it does, has drastically reduced functionality compared to the card I had to throw away because Creative refused to support it in Windows 7 OR make the modern equivalent that I was sitting around with money in hand waiting to buy, and I can no longer use a recording program to record audio coming from another program. (like, oh, to make a ringtone for my phone out of old SNES game music from an emulator. Had to use my laptop's built-in motherboard audio to get that feature back.)

So pardon me when I say, don't take buying advice from fanboys.

Many games are designed with EAX audio extensions ( Environmental audio extensions ) to provide high quality, immersive audio for the player.
So as i understand i need soundcard that has high EAX.
There are 5 types of EAX
EAX 1.0
8 simultaneous voices processable in hardware
32 individual 3D voices
Environmental Effect Presets
Per-channel individual environmental presets
Hardware DSP Rendering.
[edit] EAX 2.0
EAX 2.0 was used in Sound Blaster Live! sound cards.

32 simultaneous voices processable in hardware
Occlusion Effects
Material-specific reverb parameters
[edit] EAX 3.0
EAX 3.0 was used in Sound Blaster Audigy sound cards.

64 simultaneous voices processable in hardware
'Smoothing' between 3D audio environments
Direct access to all reverb parameters
Environmental Panning
New reverb engine
Beginning of the AdvancedHD Designation from new reverb engine
[edit] EAX 4.0
EAX 4.0 is present in Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and the X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound cards.

Real-time hardware effects
Multiple simultaneous environments
Flange
Echo
Distortion
Ring modulation effects
[edit] EAX 5.0
EAX 5.0 is present in Sound Blaster X-Fi sound cards (except the Xtreme Audio cards).

128 simultaneous voices processable in hardware and up to 4 effects on each
EAX Voice (processing of microphone input signal)
EAX PurePath (EAX Sound effects can originate from one speaker only)
Environment FlexiFX (four available effects slots per channel)
EAX MacroFX (realistic positional effects at close range)
Environment Occlusion (sound from adjacent environments can pass through walls)

Tho same time i wold like to have soundcrd that supports 7.1 as i am waching also alot of movies and some games support also 7.1 sound.
I am confused what to get.
