APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Next 10 days

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: School, gaming, music production/recording.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: OS, videocard (have a 5670), optical drive, speakers, mouse, keyboard.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg, tigerdirect, fry's electronics, whatever.

PARTS PREFERENCES:Small size case is a must, microATX. Definitely want a quad core or better. 500gb hard drive, don't really need anything bigger or smaller.

OVERCLOCKING: Possibly, don't want to spend a lot on aftermarket cooling and would only like to do small overclocking.

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: no

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Will be doing some light gaming (starcraft 2, dragon age). I'll be using a 5670 video card and likely won't ever buy a high end one so I would like to not have to spend a ton of money on a fancy high wattage power supply. Also it's likely I'll be using this pc for 4+ years. Hopefully somebody can get a good build within $500 since the OS and videocard are already taken care of.

By light OC you men how light?

^ You are missing the HDDs and the HSF for the X3 720...
And IMO that 650W and the 890GX mobo is not required for his requirements...

Here is a build...
X4 635 + MSI 880G - Multi-threaded apps would run better on the Quad...also is cheaper and comes with HSF - even though stock ones, but are fine...

RAM -
Decent set of RAMs, for mild overclocks too...And dont bother about the heatsinks as DDR3 RAMs run cooler because of low voltages...
GSKillz DDR3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253
Or
Corsair - After rebates, these are nearly as cheap and also faster, but that wont matter much though...

HDD - Samsung F3 1TB
Yes you asked for a 500GB nothing less/ nothing more...But for just $15 more, you get double the storage and faster one too...then why not ??

CASE - That vulcan is a good option...

If you want still a smaller case, then check this out...

Maybe he could then buy other higher quality parts than a 30$ case.

But why spend your budget on performance that no one sees when you can instead invest in a spiffier case that everyone looks at and can oooooo and awwwwww - as long as they don't see your performance. And don't forget all those snazzy lights you can add inside. Unfortunately the selected case does not have a clear window but it does have lots of holes from which light can project.

Someone needs to record a good CD one can run in their computer - you know that provides some great sounds like a car revving its engine - but a computer version of such sounds. So you can "hear" your computer chugging away in the background - like powerful machinery. Then maybe one of those electronic room deoderizers that you plug into the wall nearby - but with some nice ozone odors and maybe a wiff of oil and smoke added occassionally to freak everyone else out. That would be a real machine.
