What's wrong with my 5970?

I've bought a 5970, and I am wondering quite a bit about what my problem could be. In 3Dmark06, the performance sucks, to be exact. http://service.futuremark.com/home.action?resultId=1380... - check rest of the specs there, too.

The score is the same, as it was with my 8800GT SLI!

I've enabled Catalyst A.I. so that shouldn't be the problem - are there anything I've forgotten about?

More about : wrong 5970

You need to overclock that cpu to about 3.4-3.6GHz to minimize bottleneck. CPU is a big factor when benchmarking is done @1280x1024.
How is in game performance at decent resolution?

The only game I've tried so far is Empire: Total War. It had some lags, when looking around the map. But I'll try to overclock my CPU. But I am just quite surprised to see such bad performance from this card.

These high power cards shine at higher resolutions.

It's just strange that I got a similar score with 8800GT SLI. :S

At lower resolutions, the score is limited by the CPU, no matter what GPU you put in. Your overall score will be limited because of this.

Why do you care so much about your score. It isn't an accurate measure.

Try something like a vidoe game.

Hey

Im sorry but I could not find your CPU specs...do you have a dual core?

Please let me know what kind you have

He has an Intel Core i7 860. I agree with the other posters, You have a CPU bottleneck for a few reasons

1) 2.8Ghz isn't really enough to let the HD5970 shine

2) 3DMark06 runs at 1280x1024, at this resolution your CPU can't keep up with your GPU

3) 3DMark06 is heavily CPU dependent, and is not really an accurate tool to measure system performance.

Like others have suggested try some games out.

That's just the default, you can change it easily enough. I run my 3DMark tests at 1680x1050 since that's what I game at.

Well I just have the Free Basic edition, so I can't change any settings, You need either the professional or Advanced edition to change the resolution.

Ah, OK. I wasn't willing to live with the Basic version's limitations so I bought the Professional one. It's fairly cheap.
