Upgrading the BIOS on my IBM T30 laptop killed the 2-month-old
battery. Before the flash, it was charged to 100%, after it
was 0%, and the battery won't charge. It may be relevant that
the battery, which I bought from a company selling notebook
parts, nowhere says "IBM" altho the order form calls it:

1 IBM Thinkpad T30 Series Li-Ion Laptop Battery ( 02K7050)
$99.00

Has anyone else heard of this before? I'm wondering if IBM
added something to the BIOS to kill knockoff batteries, if
this is one.

Thanks.

Look on forums.thinkpads.com. I think your hunch is right.

The battery is not dead. It is not compatible with that BIOS level. Just
flash the BIOS back (the older BIOS are listed on the IBM site), and the
battery will work again.
Yes, I have indeed heard of this before. THe other option of course is a new
IBM battery
