To switch or not to switch

I have another hard decision I need help with

First off, here is my rig

i7-930 OC to 4ghz
DFI x58 T3H6
2x5850 in xfire config
Gaming at 1920x1080 resolution

I am "ok" with the performance of the 2x5850s
But Metro2033 gave me a hard time, since the fps is really shitty with DX11 and Tessellation/Advance DOF

I am really worried about the future proof of my cards, so I want to upgrade
My mobo only supports 2 cards in xfire or sli, so I can't add another 5850 to make it any faster

As most of you should know, Tessellation gives ATI 5xxx cards a huge beating
Where as the fps lose is less with Geforce 480/470s
And the new benchmarks for Dx11 just rapes ATI cards
And with new games comming out, I imagine that most will go with more tessellation details in future games

Also, some games I play don't support xfire, and some that do result in shittier performance with xfire (yes very weird, most games are fine tho)

So should I

Upgrade to a 480?
Upgrade to a 5970? (I don't really like xfire, but if it is truely more powerful than a 480, I'd consider it)
Upgrade to a Gigabyte 5870 Super overclock? (which cost lower than a 480) but beats it when no tessellation is on
Or stick with the 5850s I have now and just suck it up and lower graphic details when playing future games?

I understand that a 5970 is on par with 2x5850, but it has more overclocking headroom and I could xfire another 5970 when needed
A 480 is good, but I'm really concerned about the heat it produces, going over 90C is kinda pushing it for me

Please help me, I'm really really..... frustrated
Also, all the cards above are in the same price rage, so just help me with the performance part

Tessellation, Future proof, Only one more expand slot
Gah I hate not being rich enough to buy everything high end

Overclock your HD5850s! They can easily hit 1000core/1200mem, and there should be absolutely no issues playing Metro2033 with those monstrosities.

The heat goes way too high on the first card if I tune the voltage and overclock it
Personally the max I can get without tuning voltages is 850/1200, which is what I am running now
And I am sure that Metro2033 with 4xAA and advance DOF turned on, even if it's OCed to 1000/1200, it won't be able to get decent frames
