I7 VMWare Matlab Build

Last response: in Systems
Share

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: This Week
BUDGET RANGE: 1000-1300

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: I want to run VMWare ESXi with a couple low intensity VMs,(development, testing, database) but the majority of the resources will be allocated to running a VM running Matlab. I will not do any gaming.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I like newegg, but anywhere is fine. (Microcenter, etc.)
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: I plan to use the i7 860, but am open to suggestions.

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: n/a

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Performance is primary, but energy consumption, heat, and noise are also important.

CPU: Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor $279

Ram: 3 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) $389.97

DVD: ASUS Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DVD-E818A6T/BLK/B/G $16.99

Partial Total: $875

I am not sure about the following:
Case
Video Card (I imagine something very cheap would work. Ideally I would like to use a Nvidia card in case I don't use VMWare I could use CUDA support for Matlab)
Power Supply (Energy efficiency is important)
CPU Cooler- Is the stock cooler/fan sufficient?
Network Card- I read somewhere that ESXi is very picky regarding onboard network cards.

Thanks for any help. I have built a dozen or so systems, but my last one was almost ten years ago and could use some suggestions.
