I have a 3 yr old 550 Watt PSU that I want to use with my new components:

mobo: MB MSI| 890GXM-G65 RT
cpu: CPU AMD|PH II X6 1055T 2.8 G AM3 RT
vidcard: ATI Radeon 5770
ram: DDR3 4gb (2gb x 2)
cd/dvd burner: 1x
HDDs: samsung 1TB 7200rpm + another smaller HD
fans: 2 case cooling fans (110mm, 80mm)

I figure I'll need ~450 watts (the vidcard seems most demanding, minimum they rec 450)

Solution
Well, let's see. I figure (some figures rounded slightly):

CPU - 10 amps @ 12 volts = 120 watts
GPU - 7 amps @ 12 volts = 84 watts
MB - 5 amps @ 5 volts = 25 watts
Memory - 8 amps @ 3.3 volts = 25 watts
2 HD's and an optical - 3 amps @ 12 volts and 3 amps @ 5 volts = 50 watts
2 fans - less than 1 amp @ 12 volts = 6 watts.

I get about 310 watts.

Try some of the PSU calculators.
