860 system vs 930 system and cooling advice.

I need advice on which system to go with and which cooler to use. I am definitely planning to Overclock and would like roughly a 4ghz overclock on either system. Also i know the psu is probably overkill, but i may to add more hard drives later, put cathodes, leds etc in and definately plan for a second graphics card at a later date.
Thanks

More about system system cooling advice
  1. Since you're looking for OC's above 4Gz you want to go with i7-930 and X-58 motherboards.
    ~ Around £60 difference in CPU/MB/RAM combo.
You left a CPU cooler out of your list. Titan TTC-NK85TZ/V2 Fenrir CPU Cooler would be a good choice.

You can compare you choices with the Bit-Tech Hardware Buyer's Guide May 2010
  2. Firstly thanks, and yeah i know about the cooler i asked for advice on one. Also thanks for the bit tech link, but for the UK they recommend an Akasa Nero S even though both are available???
  3. I think they have the rationale for choosing one over the other in that article.
  4. What is the machine for? Gaming? Rendering/coding/programming?
Just gaming means you may as well go with i5 750.
If doing more then may aswell go all out for the i7 930, triple channel RAM and the good OCing.

Is there a specific reason you want the Dell screen? It is very expensive compared to a 24inch Acer 2ms response time 1920 x 1080 resolution - £190

  5. Gaming Primarily, but, i do some website design, photoshop and video editing too.

My reasons for choosing the Dell were.
The Dell screen is an IPS while the Acer is a TN panel.
The Dell has a mountain of connectivity. I want the displayport for my eyefinity setup :D
I like the look of it. :D Not really so important.
And it has full 1200p resolution.

But if you really think its not worth it then I will probably get the Acer.
If that sounded sarcastic im sorry i didnt mean it to.

    Thanks again.
  6. I am no expert on monitors, as a gamer full HD and decent quality and good response time is all I look for and I get get that around $200. I am not going to discourage ytou from the ell choice because I just don't know enough about monitors to say 'don't waste your money' it may well be worth every cent, it just seemed very expensive for me as a simple gamer :D
  7. Haha oh right. Well i know bugger all about monitors aswel. I only know what i know from information on forums and guides :D and both monitors seem to have good reviews.

    Thanks
  8. 1920x1200, gorgeous IPS panel, USB AND media reader. Plus height, swivel, tilt and pivot stand adjustments. Portrait mode!
    Worth every farthing.
  9. Ok WR2 you have convinced me! I will go with the dell. Cheers all of you
