I have an older Dell Latitude CPx H PIII 500 notebook. I recently
plugged it in and smelled smoke. After that the LCD does not work,
all I get is a white screen when I power on. The external monitor
works fine. I took it apart and everything looks fine. Any
suggestions on where to look for the problem?

Boot it up and shine a strong light on the screen. If you can see dim
outlines on the screen, you've lost your backlight. If it is really,
totally black, you've got a more serious problem.

Thanks for your response, but the screen is not black it is white.
Like it is washed out. I can see no outline.
