Older laptop HDD converson cable to sata

I have an old Fijutsu/Siemens Amilo 1.5 cpu notebook with 40 gig HDD and want to upgrade hdd to newer sata with higher capacity. Is there a conversion cable available to achieve this?.

There are many conversion adapters available, many are very small - but generally with notebooks, there just isn't enough space to have an adapter. Once you open it up, instead of being on a ribbon cable, many slot into the pins that are actually on the motherboard.

If you do have your HDD on a cable and it does have enough room for an adapter, look at something like this:
