Hi all,

First I'd like to point out that I'm not exactly computer savvy, so I'd appreciate all the help I can get! I'm looking into a new desktop that can run games decently, does not have to be over the top extreme. Anyways, here's some info:

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: within a week or two
BUDGET RANGE: 800-900$

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, surfing the net, watching movies

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, ncix.com
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Canada

PARTS PREFERENCES: Preferably Intel cpu, but I have read good stuff about the amd phenom II X4 965....your suggestions?

OVERCLOCKING: No
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: (e.g.: 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1440x900, 1600x1200, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Just overall decent computer that can last a few years and usable for gaming, thanks everyone!

+1, looks like a nice set of components
You could spend a bit more and get the next Ati cards up in the range, the 5830 or the 5850, which would give you better gaming, but really its up to you how much you spend.

Nice cooler btw

The Hyper N520 is only a 92mm cooler which means it will be a bit noisier than a larger 120mm cooler like the Hyper 212, sunbeam core contact freezer or Xigmatek S1283 (balder, dark knight, red scorpion). Xigmatek Red Scorpion would match a HAF 922 well (both have red LEDs).

Look at the Antec Neo Eco 520 or Antec Earthwatts 650 power supplies at around the same price.

If you are going Phenom II the 955 and 965 are about the same so get whichever is cheaper. If GTA4 isnt your big game then in general you will get better gaming performance dropping to an Athlon II x3 and applying the $100 savings to a better graphics card.

He should have put newegg.ca as newegg.com doesn't ship to Canada! The prices are different and unless he's planning on going south of the border to pick them up then it's probably just a mistake.

lol yeah I forgot to mention newegg.ca.....I went on their website only to find different combo deals and pricing! My bad on that. Anyways, I went with the athlon II x3 440 since it is the best bang for buck. I also find that newegg.ca charges alot for shipping!

Anyways my setup so far is this, advice?:

Yup, all looks pretty nice and well balanced, if its within your buget, then great, if you want more fps, then the next step is an upgrade to a 5850 gpu

You might want to think about adding and aftermarket cpu cooler, cos without OC the processor will be a bottleneck if you get a bigger gpu. It also keeps the temps down and makes the rig quieter!
