I just got a new Asus P5N-D motherboard and an E8500 3.16 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor. My problem is that the processor is showing an abnormally high "CPU Temperature" of 60C in the BIOS. This is after a cold boot and getting into the BIOS within the first few seconds of being powered on. I have an older 2.4 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor which shows a normal temperature in the same board with the same cooling setup (30C). I started to get skeptical about the reading, and in Windows ran Speedfan which shows my processor cores at around 30C, but one of the other motherboard sensors at 55C.
Any ideas what is going on? Unfortunately I don't have other spare parts on hand to troubleshoot so RMA'ing the wrong part may set me back a bit. I'm trying to make my best educated guess before sending anything out to be replaced.
Just a few notes:
- BIOS is updated to the newest firmware
- I am cooling using a ZALMAN CNPS9500
- I applied Arctic Silver coolant as directed after replacing
