What do you guys think about this motherboard?

Hello I'm building a new sandy bridge system and I just had 2 questions about this board.

1. It says it has 2 x16pci express slots but it doesn't say if they both run at x16mode in SLI.

2. It says 1333standard for RAM but it also supports 1600 and 2133 oc, so should I buy 1333 or 1600?? Or should I just wait for a better board to come out?

Don't go sandy bridge yet, I believe Intel and the various mobo manufacturers still need to correct a major flaw in the chipset that causes SATA performance to drop over time and use.

The RAM will default to 1333. You can easily set it in the UEFI to 1600 or 1866 or 2133 if you buy RAM at those speeds.

The PCIe question was answered by a quick visit to MSI's site. Like most Cougar Point boards, they are not able to run at x16/x16.

However, that won't affect you unless you do SLI/CF with more than two cards and/or use a multi-monitor resolution like 5760x1200. If you use a single monitor or only two cards, there is no performance difference between x16/x16 and x8x8.

The MSI P67A-GD65/P67A-GD55/P67A-GD53/P67S-GD53/P67A-SD60 series MS-7681 Mainboard manual states x16/x8.

MSI doesn't include an SLI bridge connector but SLI is supported. CrossFire is also supported.

2133 and 1600 are faster than the JEDEC Standard for DDR3 so are considered OverClocked. If you were originally planning to overclock the RAM get the 1600 if it's in your budget.

Right on thanks, for now I'm going to roll with a single 570gtx, maybe sli later we'll see how the next year or so shakes out. That MSI board looks and seems pretty nice for $180.

For what its worth, I jumped on it. I was going to wait for the Asus Pro, but after reading all the horror stories so far, I decided on this one....and lo and behold it was the first one to be mass supplied it appears. I jumped all over it and am waiting for it to be shipped. Maybe a little more than what I was intending on spending, but supply and demand runs things. I say get it, so we have more people with it....and more chance for help as we tweak. thats my .02
