Hey, i have to decide on choosing a monitor. I own a hd 5850 and i'm going to get another one and put them in crossfire, and i can't decide for a new monitor: should i go for 1680x1050 22'' or 1920x1080 24/26'' ?
I'm sure my setup would play current games very well at 1920x1080, but for how long will it be good enough? I don't plan to upgrade graphics again very soon.. so should i go with lower res?

Also.. i have a Phenom II x4 955 3.2ghz..do you think it would bottleneck 2 5850's?

Thanks for you help!

You should be fine till 2012 when next gen console comes out, increasing all games graphics requirements.

A single HD5850 should be great for 1920x1080, especially if you overclock it. Only get another card after you try what you already have with the new monitor. Save crossfiring for a later date when the card may cost much less and there are more games around where it will make a noticeable difference.
Don't even consider crossfired HD5850s for a 1680x1050 monitor, that would just be a rather large waste of money.

I was thinking the same thing

I have a 260 gtx with a 1680*1050 monitor and i can max everything out(with exeptions to crysis and BFBC2)

So if you are getting an HD5850 then def go for the 24 or 26 inch 1920*1080

Doing this will use the cards potential as well as make you go O.O lol

Thanks for all the tips!
Well guess i'm going for 1080p res..i won't be able to max out ALL the games but quality would be more than satisfying.
I have just one more question..would the PII x4 955 bottleneck 2 x 5850 ?

Once again, do NOT spend $300 on another HD5850 until you try a single card at that resolution. As people are saying much weaker cards are quite good for that resolution already. Especially if you OC your card it should be fantastic.
For your reference the 955 likely will bottleneck crossfired HD5850s somewhat in certain games/situations but that will be largely academic as it will probably happen at a frame rate that is still very high.

Ok then thanks for the answer. Ill buy a 24 inch and get another 5850 later when they get cheaper..anyway now i'm playing bad company 2 and i'm sure i can max it out on 1080p anyway :D

Here is an article on benchmarks for that game;
http://www.techspot.com/article/255-battlefield-bad-company2-performance/page5.html
That resolution is 11% higher than yours and they are getting 55.7 FPS on high quality with 2xAA/4xAF. The card also isn't OCed so if you do so your performance should be significantly higher.
If you aren't OCing you should BTW. That card can OC a ton even if you don't want to mess with the voltage(which you can for speeds over 1ghz.)

I have a gtx 260 with a 24" LCD 1920*1200 and i can pretty much max everything =)
24" 16:10 should be the sweetspot for the 5850 :pt1cable:

I know...its a really good card

The only reason i cant max BFBC2 is prolly the 3gigs of ram i have or the fact that its one of the first 260's (192)

Mine is just a little overclocked, not by a lot but yeah.
still, everything else TOTALY maxed out, gotta love the 260

Ok I can't decide between BenQ G2420HDBL or BenQ V2410 eco (yeah i want LED :d). Both seem to have the same specs, just that V2410 has HDMI and audio ports but no DVI (i think) while the first..no HDMI. But i really don't care about that.
Can get the G2420HDBL for a lot cheaper also :D Any opinions? Also..is it bad that i'm going for LED backlight?

I'd go with the 26" or the 24" the resolution is not much of a factore as you're eye cant really tell at such resolutions. Its just the screen size thats the main factor and with the 1080 at least you'd get a true aspect ratio HD. I would not be to concerned with games at that resolutions as movies. Thats where its more practical. I personally dont think 5850s are worth an SLI setup yet, their still to expensive. I have 2 GTX 285s and I dont think it was worth it. You dont get 100% nor 75% nor 50% improvement w/sli. I think SLI will make sense when the cards drop to 150 or so, at least thats my opinion.
