Try this

First run chkdsk (search internet), mostly ur problem would be resolved

Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > computer management > disk management

and see the disk structure... the first displaced would be your internal hard drive on desktop or laptop.
see the second row, is there anything visible...?

if it says that it is unallocated (usually basic), then there might be MBR error persists (search for internet). usually problems arises in Win 7

then u have to go for any recovery softwares to recover files and re-format the drive...
