I see. Well, I was not sure whether get a 5870 and overclock it and play Crysis maxed out at 1680x1050, or get two 5850s Xfire and overclock it to play Crysis maxed out at 1920x1080.

5870 all the way with msi after burner you can overclock the 5870 up to around 950 core. I have had the non refrence cooler version of the XFX 5870 for awhile now and love it.

Umm, i think you should't have any problem with Crysis on Very High 4x or 8x AA @ 16x10 and 19x10 with the 5850, especially when OC'ed:)

I checked benchmarks and two 5850s got an average of 40fps on VeryHigh with x4 AA. A single 5850 was around the mid 20s, which is unplayable since the min frame rate would dip into the teens.

A single 5870 was only in the low 30's at 1080p and VH, x4 AA, which is barely playable.

OCed, it would probably be a 10% improvement, so it'd be still almost unplayable.

So I wasn't sure whether to spend ~$280 today and maybe $200-250 in the future (price drop) to get 2x5850s to play Crysis at 1080p maxed with great fps, or ~$365 and play Crysis at 1680x1050 maxed with decent/good fps.

Anything over 26-7 fps in Crysis is playable for me , thats whay i play it @ VH 12x10 res with my light OC'ed 4850

But i still think you should get a 5850, and OC it to 5870 level. OR if you have the money go 2x5850

edit- if you aren't in a hurry then wait for some price drops. 2x5850 are sure more worth it than single 5870

Yeh, I'm going to try that. For me, I hate when my minimum fps dips into the single digits or the teens since it makes the game really laggy...

I'm definitely not going to buy two 5850s right now since that'd cost waaayy too much. I'm just gonna go ahead and buy 1 5850 since I've been waiting for almost 8 months for a price drop and it still hasn't happened yet... :fou:

If the price do eventually drops, I'll get another for Xfire...

Good idea:)

There will be a price drop on the 5850 (probably) when GTX 365 is out, probably in early june or during the summer.

GTX 365? Are they really going to continue this naming game?? With the GTX 470 and 480 out, why on God's earth would they make another 300 series card?

btw, does anyone know the 5870's exact dimensions?

Some sources say 10.5inches, some say 10.6 inches, and some say 11 or 11+ inches... O_o

Depends on the card, if they follow the OEM design, it's about 10.5 inches long, but some non oem designs vary, I've seen 8.5 to 11.5 inches.
Graphics card Expert

The 5870 should be from 10.7 to 11 inches long.

Oh and i meant the GTX 465 not 365, my mistake:( . It should be somewhere between HD 5830 and 5850, but closer to the HD 5850's performance

5850 and a heavy overclock :)

This^
I wish i still had the link but when you OC the performance difference between the two cards shrinks to 5-6%.
Graphics card Master

I get Avg 41FPS, min of 30.97FPS on Crysis VH 1920 x 1080 DX10 noAA, Perfectly playable.

Thats with my 5850 at 1000/1200 which granted is a heavy OC, but it can do 922/1200 at stock voltage.

Aye, I'll wait another few month before I go for the 2nd 5850 and finally play Crysis @ UH... :D

Something to look forward to.

Something else you could try to, is downloading (if you already have Half Life 2), Half Life 2 Cinematic Mod 10.....it's devestating on weaker machines (it's also a 10 GB mod) but I'm telling you, it's really visually appealing, and taxing. I think there is a trailer on youtube somewhere....
