what's the best processor under $150 in your opinion? I was looking at the intel core2 duo e7500, what is the AMD counterpart to this? Phenom II x4 945?

^ which is more powerfull than the Core2duo. Also the other parts such as the motherboard are cheaper, if you go with AMD.

There are a lot of processors for under $150 more powerful than the Core2 E7500.

Phenom II X2 can match and slightly exceed it's performance.
Athlon II X3/X4 will both offer similar single threaded performance, and superior threaded performance
Phenom II X4 should be able to match the single threaded performance and destroy it with threaded performance

And of course from Intel. The I3 is superior in almost every way while being cheaper.

So if your building new, there is no reason to purchase a Core2, it's just simply not cost effective.

I was comparing the E7500 to other processors available, I know Phenom II and even some of the Athlon II processors out perform I3, but some people insist on using Intel. All I was saying is there is no reason to get an E7500 when the I3 costs less.

Maybe. That depends on the particular sample.
