Computer will not complete loading windows xp sp3, it reboots. Safe mode hangs

Hello,
computer will not complete loading windows xp sp3, it reboots. Safe mode hangs up at giveio sys. I tried to repair with WinXP disk, that didn't work. I wonder What the express recovery in the bios does? I haven't read anything that mentioned using that feature. My heart was in my throat when I tried the repair! What else can I do? I'd really like to fix it, and not reformat.

Well, I'm dumb as a stump! I found the article here about repairing XP, and I guess I did it all wrong. I thought express recovery was in the bios, or setup, wherever, and didn't realize that it was the thing I selected.

what now? Or, rather, what tomorrow? Not now. It's too late.

I'm still talking to myself here. After the repair, which apparently did work, I ran checkdisk on the computer, and it found errors. Should I run fdisk to get rid of the errors?

Once the computer started running the other day, I haven't turned it off overnight, only off if I have to reboot to install updates. I prefer shutting down my computers overnight, but am afraid to.
