Crossfire Ribbon

Hello,
I was just wondering if all crossfire configurations need the ribbon, or if some can do without it. I have two 4770s that I am planning on running crossfired and don't know if I'm going to need 0/1/2 of the crossfire ribbons. Thanks for the help!

There are some Crossfire configurations that don't need the ribbons but I think the 4770 does.
