Can i add 1GB RAM on my motherboard AGP8X having P4 1.8GHz, Windows XP OS

I was running WindowsXP on AGP8X motehrboard (P4) with 256MB RAM, due to poor performance, i wanted to upgrade RAM to 1GB (333MHz). Unfirtunately, affter adding this RAM, PC automatically reset after 2 mins from successful startup. Can anyone help?
