I think most printers are throwaways, the cartridges cost as much as the printer. Therefore one thing to consider is the ease of refilling the cartridges. The epson cartridges are incredibling easy to refill, making the cost per page virtually negligable. You just carefully peel back the plastic wire meshing on the top of the cartridge which reveals the filling port. You tape the hole where the ink goes into the printer. You inject 8 to 10 mls of ink in cartridge. tape the plastic wire mesh back down remove the tape on the bottom hole. replace cartridge. refills are now even easier. you can now refill indefinately. cost per page=cost of ink. Canons often require messy drilling and often screw up after a very few refills. lexmarks are problematic. I haven't used hp's, but I believe they are like the lexmarks, problematic. When the printing heads no longer print cleanly, throw the whole thing away and buy a new printer. 2 cartridges + printer= cost of 2 cartridges.
