There is a lot of hardware for which no one wrote Windows 7 drivers. Unless you know someone who writes drivers for a hobby, they are now useless.

However: DVD writers are supposed to connect just fine without special drivers. Is this an external USB drive, which is what I found when I looked for the model? If so, does any other USB device work in that same port?

Ray, you are better off spending $15 on a new DVD Writer from newegg. There are available drives for both SATA and PATA DVD Writers that are comparably priced. Make sure you get the correct kind. If you need an external drive, Samsung and Rosewill sell quality external DVD writers for under $30.
