So i bought a hitachi touro mobile external 1TB hard drive for about $100. its usb 3.0, BUT i dont have usb 3.0
i want the 3.0 just in case i get 3.0 down the road, but that wouldn't be for a while....
plugged into usb 2.0 port and it failed to register because of power. SO i got a powered usb 2.0 hub. it has an output of 2000mA, which should be plenty as normal usb 2.0 ports are only 500mA.
However... i plug it into the hub, and it seems to work fine. but when i started back up my computer, it started drawing more power. and then i heard the hard drive click of death. Now, the click was happening ALOT, but the i think the hard drive is ok, just the power is an issue because i read that hard drives often get the click of death when they aren't getting enough power to run.
so, is there a simply solution to get my new 3.0 hard drive to actually work on my 2.0 computer. is a lack of power really the problem? (it shouldn't be as the hub is supposed to dish out 2000mA)
or, should i just return the hub and the hard drive and buy a 2.0 hard drive.
the thing is, i thought 3.0 is backwards compatible (and it is) so then why isn't it working.
