Hello there, was planning to save up money so i could build a new gaming rig. Currently still have a hard time to decide which part is good for my gaming requirement.

I am planning to play these games on Max or Almost Max Setting with a decent framerate 30 to 40. --> GTA4 ( I know it's a bad port no need to mention it over & over again ), BFBC2, Crysis, FSX & Other future DX11 games. So here's what i had in mind so far for the basic part:

•CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720

•MOBO: ASUS M4A785D-M PRO MOTHERBOARD (AM3/AM2+/AM2 & 785GX & SB710)

•RAM: OCZ PC2-8500 DDR2 PLATINUM DUAL CH. KIT CL5 4GB (2x2048MB)

•HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

•PSU: OCZ ModXstream Pro 500W

•GPU: Sapphire HD5850 1GB GDDR5 (DX11 Ready)

My Question:

1) Can this build handle the games that I listed down above?

2) Do I really require PC2-8500 (1066MHz) RAM? or is 800MHz enough (without O.C-ing CPU) ? If I intend to overclock the CPU, should I get the 1200MHz O.C RAM? or just stick with 1066?

3) Would the AMD P2 X3 720 bottleneck the system performance when equipped with the HD5850 GPU for gaming?

4) Lastly, is the PSU powerful enough @ 500W?

Thanks!

1. Yes but i'd hit an AM3/DDR3 set up for fresh builds
2. See #1
3. No
4. Just about nice but no room if u thinking GPU upgrades down the road ^^
Perhaps state max budget, gaming resolution, any h/w to be reused, etc so we could help ya out better ^^

What's your budget? That would be good to know before we can start making recommendations.

Oops, didn't see batuchka's post, sorry.

One thing right off the bat though, get 4GB of DDR3 instead of DDR2, it makes quite a bit of difference for only $10-20 more.

oookay. well i'm not so sure what's my maximum budget. hehs =/ Currently the build is at B$1700 ( US$1200 ) I know it's expensive here where I live (somewhere in Asia).

Thanks for the advice by the way! I'll try to look for other MoBo/RAM which is DDR3 capable. or Maybe just stick with DDR2 for the time being.
