Sound through DVI??

I thought it was impossible, but my 40 inch Samsung LCD that i use for a second monitor is playing sound from my computer through a DVI connection. I always thought DVI was strictly video. My video card is a GTX 480 and it hooks up to my monitor with a DVI to HDMI connection. Can someone please explain how this is possible?

How can it deliver audio from DVI if DVI cant handle audio transmissions?
