Hi all. After years of spending cash on diapers (not for myself ), I'm finally able to replace my old AMD64 3200+ single core processor.

However I'm not sure if the Athlon II X3 440 is a viable option or not.
It's going to be paired with a 5770 graphics card, an Asus M4A77TD motherboard and 4 gigs of Kingston HyperX Dual Channel RAM (PC3-10600).

I'm not going for a full-out-top-of-the-line gaming rig as you can tell already, but I do want some nice performance regardless.

PS: I'm located in Denmark and hardware is a bit more expensive here. The cheapest AII X3 440 I can find will cost me $110/€85.

My plan was to get a Phenom II X4 955, but my budget just crumbled.

Thanks!

For the money, yes. Especially with an OC.
Whats the prices for the other Athlon CPUs if I may ask?

Cheapest
Athlon II X3 425: $95
Athlon II X4 630: $120

Most expensive
Athlon II X3 445: $120
Athlon II X4 610e: $200

I figured something in between would be for the best =)

The X3 Rana's are an excellent choice for gamers on a budget.

You can only go with what you can afford, but you should find the X3 is more than adequate when its paired with a decent gfx card.

Alright it's settled then. Thank you all for your replies =)
Luckily the mobo supports more cores so I can always upgrade a few years down the line.

Do you want to OC?
If so, the 425 is at a great price right now, and one @3.2Ghz would be great.
