Thanks in advance.

I am looking for reputable pages that rate laptops. I'm overwhelmed by all
the choices. I am hoping that someone has already done my homework for me.

You can try www.cnet.com (sometimes you need to take their reviews with a
grain of salt though..)
www.pcmag.com
www.pcworld.com (personnal favorite)

Before you look at reviews, you should narrow down your choices by
size, weight, processor, battery life, ports, performance, price,
brands, hard drive size, type of optical drive (if any), memory
capacity, wireless, acceptable brands etc.

Otherwise you may get a hundred responses all touting the specific
machine that each poster bought as the best possible choice.

There was a site I found where you could specify features to narrow
down choices between all available notebooks, but I can't find it
anymore.

I just went through the selection process, but fortunately there were
only four models that met all my requirements (other than some no-name
models that I wasn't considering). Within those four there were
trade-offs in terms of price, warranty, weight, battery life, drive
size, and screen.
