Hey guys! So I was looking to get some cash together to upgrade my ancient computer, and it should be around the 1500+ range, and I was thinking about the GTX 480. I know its started to do better than the 5870 with the new drivers, while $100 dollars more. However before I can go with the 480 over the 5870 I'd want to know how much it would cost to make sure i can crossfire them in the fu

Sorry computer cut me off during my post. :fou:

So my questions are can the Coolermaster Storm Sniper cool and fit two GTX 480s

and can one of these power supplies power them both? was leaning towards the corsair if it it's capable.

Im not sure if it'll fit in that case... I put a 5770 in my dad's Storm Scout and it had plenty of room left, but 1, that case is a little smaller than the Sniper and 2, the 5770 is 2" shorter than the 480.

For $10 more, I'd go with the Cooler Master HAF 932. It's a full size case and will have more room than the Sniper.

Im a big corsair PSU fan, the last 3 rigs Ive built, i put their psu's in em, including my dads and sisters... but for the money, I'd go with the Antec here, it's a little stronger and it's modular, which comes in handy, BIG TIME!

You're wanting to run 2 gtx 480's? Depending on what motherboard you're going to use, how many fans, hard drives, etc.. It's going to need around 800watts to power all that.

The kingwins, havent heard much about them but they get good reviews. If you can afford it, look at the corsair 1000watt.

Btw, what all are you wanting to do besides video card? What CPU are you wanting?

I just put together this list, now take into account, it'll be $100 cheaper with a 5870 and the performace dif. between the 5870 and 480 isnt that much. And if you get some of these parts off amazon.com or tigerdirect, you can end up saving a few bucks. I did that on my i7build and saved $138

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
CPU: i7 930
Mobo: EVGA E757 X58 LE
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper N 520
RAM: 6gb 1600mhz OCZ Gold
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 480
HD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
ASUS DVD/CD burner
PSU: ANTEC Truepower 1000watt

Total: $1607

Thank you beitzel. I also have access to a microcenter so i can save nearly all of that on the in-store pick up of the i7-930. Thanks for the build and the info about the case. Don't really like the looks of the HAF 932 but it'll be under my desk so I can deal with it for the great reviews I've seen it get. Appreciate it!

No problem man. I dont like the 932 either lol. I wasnt sure if you would but since it got good reviews, I picked it. I, personally, am in love with the Thermaltake Spedo... It's $200 but it's a beast. Fans everywhere (or places for fans)

If you have any more questions, you can send me a message, or post up again here. Lots of great info on this forum!

Good luck with the build man.
