Toshiba laptop reboot error

Hello,
My daughters laptop shut down while she was online last night. When she re-started, it went to a black screen with the message "insert boot disc" and "hit any key"
We didn't get any boot discs with the computer, a Toshiba L745-S4210.
I tried holding down zero as I re-started but it still goes to the same screen.
