Can i put an amd processr in and amd2 socket

i have an old hp pavillion 6640c i have a new motherboard with an amd2 socket 7,,, will the old processor work in the new board or should I buy the amd2 processor?

No, you absolutely can not put a socket 7 CPU into a Socket AM2 motherboard. Go to your motherboard maker's website with your model of motherboard, there you should be able to find a list of compatible CPUs for your use. The bottom line is that you will have to get a new processor for the motherboard. Good luck!
