Strange beeps at start up

Hello,

my main computer specs are the following:
CPU AMD Phenom X4 9100e (AM2+ Socket)
Gigabyte nForce 405 chipset (AM2) with BIOS upgraded to support AM2+ CPUs
2x2 GB DDR2 800 Mhz
VGA Radeon 5500 512 Mb PCI 2.0 Express
PSU 450W

Before this I had an AM2 Athlon X2 without this issue.

The system works ok but the sequence of booting is next:
1. Power button to start up system.
2. One beep (normal), no screen.
3. Two beeps (low volume) then a pause, and repeating this step (3) about 4 o 5 times. No screen.
4. A pause about few seconds.
5. Finally BIOS screen shows.
6. Loading operating system... etc

My question is if someone knows about why the beeps from step 3.

Maybe it can be motherboard (BIOS) trying to adjust frequency or memory with AM2+ Phenom HT (hypertransport is lowered on AM2 socket) link or something... but I don't know.

Thank you.

Issue solved, the beeps are for graphics card if I remove it and plug in another card there are no these beeps.

About your questions:
Yes, it is compatible with latest BIOS version as it says on Gigabyte website.
No, I'm not overclocking anything.

Thank you.

No dead GPU, it works smoothly, I ran a few games and benchmarks with no glitches or malfunction.

The only issue as I said is BIOS POST time delay (about 10-15 seconds) meanwhile VGA makes tiny beeps.

Really, It seems like an incompatibility between PCI Express versions (VGA Card 2.0 or 2.1) and my mobo (1.0 or 1.1).

There should be no issue regarding the PCI-E version. Have you tried the GPU (video card) in another PC to see if it does the same there?

Also, in your BIOS, do you have "quick post" enabled?

Weird things happen... Try clearing out the CMOS, but doublecheck & write down settings you customized beforehand.

Good news, Gigabyte sent me a new motherboard version BIOS (beta) and now BIOS makes POST quickly with the Radeon HD 5550 (PCIx 2.0).

If anybody had a similar problem try asking your motherboard company.

Thank you all.

PD: I've/had quick post enabled or disabled.
