I finally moved into a new apartment where I can set up a gaming rig again. I can't decide where to pony up for the 5850 or stay at the 5770 level. I will be playing on a DELL 21 inch 1680x1040 LCD that I had purchased... oh 5 years ago. I want to play the following at the highest settings:

All Steam games (CSS, TF2, Portal 1+2, HL2, Ep 1+2)
Starcraft 2
Metro 2033

I am planning on a system with the following:

AMD PII X3 720 (hoping to unlock 4th core and OC)
4 gig of DDR3 1600

I'm not sure if you can Play Metro 2033 on very high quality with 5770 with having Advanced DOF on (it takes a lot of fps) but with advanced DOF off i think you'll have about 50 fps

Make sure it will fit your case, the darn thing (5870) is like 11 1/2" long.
A friend brought one over a few weeks back to pop in and see how it ran on my machine, and it would not fit into my Raidmax Ninja case. Just about 1/2" too long. I could have done some surgery on the drive bays and got it in there, but really didn't want to, wasn't that big a deal, but at least I know now that I'll need to drop to the 5850 for an easy fit.

All i know is that they wont be getting cheaper anytime soon. there is no competition for low end dx11 cards from nvidia and even if there were i dont think there would be any price changes. i mean, look at the 4850's they just dropped 10$ about a month ago.
