Most laptops I've ever looked into use some sort of heat pipe leading
to a fan. If I am correct in that observation then your question is
moot.

I assume you are talking about external coolers? I have a heatpipe one. It
works well if the bottom of the laptop touches the cooling pad, but if the
bottom of the laptop is elevated at all, it does very little. That said, if
all that were only fan cooling pads I wouldn't have gotten one at all.

hi
thanks for your answer, my laptop is an acer aspire and it is 1 or 2
cm over the desk so, i think if i buy the hotpipt, there will be 2 or
1 cm distance between them. will them work?

thanks

The heatpipe ones will still work a little. I mean, the bottom of the laptop
gets elevated above the table so there is better airflow and the heatpipes
will absorb some of the heat. It's just that if the laptop touches the
difference in temperature is HUGE. The heatpipe ones have other purposes
too. For instance, you can use the laptop on your bed or something else soft
and it will keep the bottom of the laptop elevated.
