A DIY RAID System

I'm looking for some advice on a RAID system that i can build myself, preferably USB 3.0 or thunderbolt enclosure. and a fast reliable 2tb 3.5" drive

Get this U3eS_RM controller.

It's a 100% hardware raid, it wont need system CPU resourse
Connect to eSATA or USB3.0 you can get about 250MB/sec

if you need more reliable set up as RAID5+HS
