1300$ Budget Gaming PC Build. Advice Welcome!

Hello Everyone. I'm looking to purchase and build a PC within the next two weeks. This computer will be mainly for gaming. I don't plan on overclocking it at all. I'm mainly looking to use Newegg.com to get the parts but if there are better deals somewhere else, that is also perfectly fine. I'm not a technical savant by any means but have done some research. That said, I feel pretty safe taking people on these boards advice over my own thoughts. I don't need a monitor, mouse or keyboard. Just about everything else will be required. My budget is 1200-1300 dollars. Looking to go with a Single video card setup but am not opposed to do SLI/Crossfire. As far as how loud it is or the bling, that's not a big deal to me, i just want good performance from something that will last.

Here is what the build I've got so far. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Fill out form in sticky, link in my sig.

No to the case. Go with an Antec 300 Illusion of HAF 922.

Bad HD. Go with a 7200.12 1TB or a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB.

If you want >1 TB, go with the WD 2TB blacks.

Total = $1310 before rebates, looks pretty on the money, you could step down the cpu to an i5 750 and get a 5870, but this way u get a sweet cpu that overclocks great

Do you think I will definitely need a CPU Cooling Fan with a setup similar to this? It just seems every item I'm buying has a fan or a cooling system already on it(Including the tower), so will the extra fan be necessary? I'm sure it couldn't hurt but I'm just curious.

Thats the state of the game nowadays i'm afraid, things run hot cos they are fast. The cpu comes with its own cooler, but if you plan on OCing then an aftermarket cooler like the once i specced is a must

I'm not really sure that I plan on overclocking at all. So if I don't overclock the standard CPU fan might be enough?

If you don't plan on overclocking, a system with an i5-750 and a 5870 will give better FPS at a lower price.

Can anyone else verify that? It's not that I don't believe duk3, but if that's true then I can save myself roughly 250 dollars AND get a better video card. I'm probably not going to be overclocking my machine so this might be some great news. Thanks!

Yup, i can verify that, the i5 750 is big processor, so it will not be a bottleneck for a bigger card. If you dont mind loosing hyper threading, then go for it

An i5-750 1156 chipset build gonna cost you $1200 w/ OS w/ all top end components....TX PSU OK for twin GFX cards...Upgrade to HX750 (extra $40) if doing serious OC's.

$90 CM HAF 922 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$90 Corsair TX750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$365 ASUS P7P55D-E Pro w/ Intel i5-750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

$110 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3-1600 CAS 7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$80 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Hard Drives - Check out the performance charts and pick whatever 500 GB per platter drive performs best under your usage patterns. The 2 TB WD Black and XT from Seagate are good choice but at smaller capacities, you are limited to the Seagate 7200.12 or the Spinpoint F3. The 7200.12 excels in gaming, multimedia and pictures whereas the F3 wins at music and movie maker. See the comparisons here (copy past link in manually, link won't work in forum):

Look at the tests that reflect your usage and choose accordingly.

$35 Scythe 2100 cpu COOLER http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$6 OCZ Freeze http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$310 XFX HD-585X-ZNFV Radeon HD 5850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

$25 Any DVD Burner

$99 Windows Home Premium

$1210

And yes, I would get the heat sink cooler but if you do so avoid tall RAM heat sinks which often cause interference problems.

For $20 more , upgrade to CAS 6
