I have a annoying problem ever since I installed the catalyst 10.4, I got some odd driver bug. First it wont show my 2 gpu in the ATI overdrive section only 1. Second when I right click the ati tray it displays 3 cards??
1. ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2
2. ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2
3. ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2
I have reinstalled older drivers same problem I have also did a full reinstall of vista 64 bit with formatted hard drive... so im really confused now.
So I noticed when I click on my window desktop and click personalize.
Then I check my display settings it shows 3 monitors yet I only have 1 monitor plugged into the computer..
When I enable one of the monitors the catalyst enables my second adapter. If I disable the monitor it disables the second adapter..
which is the second gpu... Yet even when both adapters are enabled only 1 is running regardless. How do I resolve this so that both gpu work with
only 1 monitor?
Is there something I need to change in the registry? or any files I need to show you?
Any help is appreciated!
Here are my computer specs

GPU - ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2 2Gb

I used to have the same problem with Vista x64. Only difference is mine is a 4850X2. Try using driver sweeper to delete ALL the old drivers on you system (Including Mobo). Then reinstall all your drivers starting with you Mobo, Ethernet, sound, then video. It also nver showed up when I switched to Windows 7. Take your pick.
That is an odd bug, considering that you have wiped the harddrive and reinstalled everything, including older drivers.
Usually, if a format/reinstall doesn't fix an issue, it is hardware related.
Yeah that's what I was thinking but it reads the second gpu when I activate the monitor. As well I can change just about all the settings for the second gpu once its activated. Problem is it just wont run. Yet it says everything is working properly in windows so idk... was thinking it could be a reg file
Well, normally in Catalyst control center there is a tab called CrossfireX, then you make sure that the box is checked. Sorry that we don't seem to be much help to you, but seeing as how you reinstalled windows, which is usually a last ditch effort to fix things, I imagine most suggestions would seem pointless.
